Leroy Thorpe - Never Again!

Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) consider a wide range of policies and programs affecting their neighborhoods, including traffic, parking, recreation, street improvements, liquor licenses, zoning, economic development, police protection, sanitation and trash collection, and the District’s annual budget. The position of ANC Commissioner is important for the well being of the community.

Leroy Thorpe Is Divisive:


	Leroy Thorpe called Barack Obama a "European-American-accepted house Negro" and Mayor Adrian Fenty a "mulatto". From the Washington City Paper, August 18, 2006


	When an African-American [Washington CityPaper] reporter contacted Leroy Thorpe for an article, he said, "I've seen a lot of Uncle Toms and house niggers, so, no, I wouldn’t be interested in giving you an interview even after the election. You’re working for the enemy," then hung up. From the Washington city Paper, October 27, 2006.


	"Assistant Chief Newsham is too busy chasing black booty...He's a selfish cockhound." Leroy Thorpe, in a press release from his COPE - Citizens Organized Patrol Efforts organization, dated September 4, 2004.

Leroy Thorpe Is Intolerant:

	Leroy Thorpe has bullied the leadership of the Third Baptist Church into barring dissenting voices from the meetings of the East Central Civic Association (ECCA), of which he is President, and which meets at the Third Baptist Church. He even barred Kevin Chapple, our incumbent ANC Commissioner. Read about it here and here.


	In February 2001, the DC Council Committee on Public Services conducted its regular oversight hearings of the ANC's. There were so many witnesses who showed up to complain about Leroy Thorpe that the Committee scheduled a special hearing just to hear their testimony. Committee Chair David Catania described it as "the first time in the 25 year history of ANC's that such a meeting has been called." The meeting was led by Councilmember Catania and Councilmember Adrian Fenty, and took place on the evening of March 1, 2001. Lt. Michael Smith, MPD, testified about intimidation of witnesses, obstruction of justice and destruction of property by Leroy Thorpe that he had witnessed firsthand. Leroy Thorpe Is Irresponsible:

	Here are excerpts from the 1997 audit of ANC2C: "ANC 2C Did Not Maintain Documentation for 94% Of Disbursements Made During the Audit Period" "For the Audit Period, 82 Percent of Canceled Checks and 70 Percent of Bank Statements Were Missing from ANC 2C's Files" "ANC 2C Did Not Maintain Minutes of Public Meetings That May Have Reflected Approval of All ANC Disbursements"



Leroy Thorpe Is A Convicted Criminal:
