Why is Thorpe Still An Employee at the Troubled Department of Youth "Rehabilitation" Services (DYRS) After His Recent Criminal Conviction?

Ask Vince Gray why Thorpe still works at DYRSOn October 19, 2009, Leroy Thorpe called the 911 dispatcher and filed a false police report. This is a crime according to DC code. Thorpe was tried and convicted of filing a false police report on May 5, 2010.

Thorpe still holds a critical position at DYRS which has had repeated internal failures that have resulted in a series of homicides and other criminal offenses carried out by youth supposedly being "rehabilitated" by staff within the agency? Such a conviction would be cause for dismissal or at the very least suspension for other government officials, so why is Thorpe still employed by the District Government?

Ask Vince Gray and Council Members Tommy Wells and Phil Mendelson whose committees have oversight over DYRS.

DYRS is the District’s cabinet level juvenile justice agency. It administers detention, commitment and aftercare services for youth held under its care in its facilities or residing in the DC community. The agency is actively involved in juvenile justice alternative sentencing and release programs.

So, why is Thorpe -- himself a repeat criminal offender -- involved with releasing juvenile offenders back in our communities where so many have been proven to commit heinous and deadly crimes?

It kinda seems like keeping a wolf in charge of a chicken coop -- even when the chickens go missing.
